Saratoga Recreation

For areas fortunate enough to be surrounded by natural beauty, it’s easy to find plenty of places for recreational fun. Such is the case for Saratoga County, a landscape filled with countless parks and easy-to-access entertainment.

One park which is most notable is the Saratoga Spa State Park. The Park can be distinguished by its classical architecture providing a diverse and aesthetically-pleasing presentation as well as because of its status as a National Historic Landmark.

The most scenic area of the Park can be found inside the Saratoga Spa State Park Golf Course. This massive region of the Park comes complete with two golf courses, a championship 18-hole course as well as a 9-hole course. Aside from the courses, there is over 12 miles of terrain ideal for picnics or casual walks along the shaded streamside trails in addition to the certified running courses. But the fun doesn’t end just because the seasons change; When it’s too cold for a picnic it’s actually the perfect time for cross-country skiing, ice skating, or even ice hockey. If staying indoors seems more suitable, it’s also a great idea to visit the Saratoga Performing Arts Center and catch a master class rehearsal or even performance.

When the weather finally does take a turn for the beautiful, the Park also maintains two pools, the Olympic-sized Peerless Pool, and the moderately-sized, peaceful Victoria Pool. Both can provide a much-needed escape when relaxing inside the Park.

Continuing on the idea of relaxation, there is also the Malta Drive-in Theatre and Saratoga Racetrack, mentioned in the Culture section, which can provide an entertaining getaway without much exercise required.

Then there is always the National Bottle Museum, located in Ballston Spa, NY, for a taste of unorthodox education. This museum seeks to preserve the history of bottle making, the Nation’s first major industry, and offers comprehensive learning about early bottle making methods as well as thousands of colorful glasswork bottles on display.

These are just a few examples of the extraordinary amount of activities and entertainment opportunities provided in Malta and the surrounding Saratoga County.
